Newspapers reflect cultural transfers that are of particular importance in multi-ethnic regions such as Central and East Europe. Moreover, the press initiated and reflected discourses on identities and policies that gave impetus which, on account of growing nationalism in the 19th and early 20th centuries, gave an impetus that had far-reaching consequences for the German minority in Eastern Europe too. The newspapers produced by German populations in East Central Europe were consequently an important forum for those populations to engage with their own identity and to reflect on other ethnic Groups.

In order to make this source material accessible in an appealing form the following 19 newspapers were digitized as part of the projects ‟German-Language Periodicals" and ‟Digital Consolidation of Collections":


As part of the project ‟Jewish German-Language Periodicals” 33 historical newspapers are currently being digitized:
