Virtual Library Eastern Europe

The ViFaOst is an inter-disciplinary regional portal which offers the scientifically interested public a free, diverse selection of information and materials regarding research on Eastern Europe. It was organised by the German Research Foundation in its programme funding scholarly literature maintenance and information systems. The organisation of ViFaOst is a consortium of the Bavarian State Library, the Department of History of Eastern and Southeastern Europe at the Department of History of LMU Munich, the Eastern European Institute (today the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies) and the Herder Institute in Marburg). Later, the Göttingen State Library and the Göttingen University Library joined as well. Since June 18, 2003, the ViFaOst is online. The internet services are continually edited and added to. The Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies administers the areas of literature access, bibliography and technical information as well as an event calendar.
