Joanna Wiesler studied German History and Culture and Archival Sciences at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and the Philipps University of Marburg and received her Master's degree in 2009. In October 2010 she began her PhD thesis at the University of Regensburg at the chair of Southeast and East European history with Prof. Dr. Natali Stegmann under the topic "Three decades of child-policy in the People's Republic of Poland. The 'society friends of children' (Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Dzieci) as promoter of institutional children's care in socialism." In spring 2012 she received a one month's stipend at the Herder Institute in Marburg. In 2011 she received a one-year fellowship from the Bavarian Academic Center for Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe and in spring 2012 a one-month fellowship at the Herder Institute in Marburg. For 2016/2017 she has been granted a Dissertation Completion Fellowship from the University of Regensburg.
